Eat before 3pm?

I think there are very few people who are absolutely free from weight issues. Most of us try to lose some kilos here and there, however I see there is a sizeable number of people who are dying to steal some from ‘most of us’.

I ran into this article on abc.es and to me it is depressing. I’ve heard about the infamous ‘nothing after 6pm’ diet but ‘nothing after 3pm’ is way too harsh! No matter how much you eat before 3pm, you will get hungry at night. Nights are too long and boring to refrain from all the goodies.

From my experiences, eating less is the only sure-fire way to win the battle of weight loss. Doing regular exercises makes your body toned and firm ‘after eating less’, but it alone doesn’t help much. As for what to eat, I feel a lot less bloated if I don’t eat much of carbs (rice, bread, potatoes etc) and sweet fruits (no no to oranges).

I’m starving and it’s already 5.30pm, well past 3pm!

***This is how this study was conducted. To reach these conclusions, the researchers studied 420 overweight persons who followed a 20-week treatment in Spain for weight loss. Participants were divided into two groups: those who ate before three and they did later. The timing of the day was lunch, as it is at this meal where you eat 40% of total daily calories. They found that those who eat later than three p.m. lost significantly less weight than those who ate soon. Those who ate later also had sensitivity to insulin estimated lower, a risk factor for diabetes. Other curious facts from this study is that the time for the other meals (breakfast and dinner) did not play a decisive role in the success of a weight loss program. In fact, late diners ate fewer calories at breakfast and were more likely to skip it, and yet the least weight were lost.***

This is a ‘wow’ research for Spaniards as it is normal for them to eat lunch after 3pm. However, the rest of us who tend to eat lunch before 3pm..what shall we do?! We’re already losing weight- supposedely-, right?

Michelle Obama’s Diet Secret

Well, the title itself is self-contradictory because we all know that there is no secret in a diet. Eat less, move more, right?

However, this kind of headline always catches my attention. I can’t help it. I’m not on a diet and maintain a slim figure, because I am conscious of what I eat. I mean I eat light the next day if I had a big dinner. I avoid carb-loaded food (can’t digest very well) and sugary drinks (never liked since child).

This is an article I came across last week. It’s not a secret but there are some good advice we all can make note of. Click here for the full article (in Spanish).

Per Mrs Obama,

1. Eat vegetables, and if from your own garden, better.
2. Many foods in small quantity.
3. Don’t look at the calories.
4. Meal plan to delegate to chefs (not applicable to all!)
5. excercise daily.
6. Stretching.

Sound and simple, right? 🙂

Apple detox diet

I’ve been eating non-stop since Friday night.

I started preparing for the lunch from Friday night. Sweet potato mash salad tastes best when served cold. I also pre-steamed prawn shitake mushroom because I wanted to taste to see whether it was worthy of serving it or not. Oh I made Kimchi as well as it required a few processes. Kimchi and bulgogi (Korean marinated BBQ beef) were upon my friend’s request for the hot pot party for Sunday lunch.

Saturday meal was great. On Saturday evening, I sliced a big rump steak beef. It just began to thaw so that I was able to cut them thinly and easily. I marinated 1kg of the meat and put it in the fridge overnight.

Sunday was a hot pot party at my friend’s. Oh bless her. She had prepared all different kinds of food – fresh shrimps, chicken thigh marinade, pork meatballs, rice noodle, various vegetable, and so on- which were enough to feed the army! They were so yummy and juicy. The lunch started at about 2pm and finished just after 6pm.

After three day & nights’ non-stop eating binge, I was understandingly tired last night. I was dozing off while I was watching ‘Puss in boots’. What a shame.

Today, to soothe my overworked stomach, I’m doing a one day apple detox diet. I’ve never done it before but it doesn’t sound too overwhelming. Basically you eat just apples all day. It doesn’t matter how many you eat, but eat apples only. I can drink water and infusions. On the way to work, I’ve bought 1 kg of Golden Delicious and I’ve eaten two so far. I may buy a bit more later.

I’ve been to the toilet quite a few times already and I’m feeling alright.
